Shared Decision Making Model of care.

At ARHC, we value a Shared Decision Making Model of care. We are a team and provide you with all of the options and you are the decision maker. We center you, your values, and your bodily autonomy. Shared Decision Making and Shared Responsibility is sought through  awareness and mindfulness. We believe that thorough understanding of risks and benefits and true informed consent are vital to a supportive pregnancy and birth experience.

Your prenatal visits will be a combination of in person visits as well as virtual visits, if you choose. We understand that finding the right provider is important and we accept late transfer of care, no matter where you are in your pregnancy.

Supportive Care

Our delivery services are broad and center your choices. We offer supportive physiologic birth options, induction of labor, family centered cesarean delivery, vaginal birth after cesarean, vaginal breech birth, twin vaginal birth, as well as external cephalic version. See more information below.

Doula Support

At ARHC, we believe in doulas and the support they provide during pregnancy care, labor and delivery, and postpartum. Part of the care we offer is one of our doulas who can provide support during your birth and / or postpartum. We are also able to provide free or subsidized doula services for some pregnant clients. Additionally, no matter who your pregnancy provider is nor which doula you have chosen for you, ARHC can help you access these funds if you are eligible.

Collaborative Care
(Co-Care)

If you are planning on pregnancy care and birth with one of the community midwives in this region, we can offer collaborative care to ensure that you can access blood work, ultrasound, screening tests, and medical care for any issues that need additional support through your pregnancy.

Physiologic Birth

Our providers at ARHC believe in birth. We trust in the birthing person to know their body and we do not hinder the birth process with unnecessary interventions. We support whatever our clients want, including natural birth and labor, delayed cord clamping, skin to skin, lotus birth if chosen, pushing in various positions, and creating a peaceful and calm environment.

Induction of Labor

For some pregnancies, an induction of labor is recommended for medical reasons but also be chosen by the birthing person after a certain point in the pregnancy. At ARHC, we support your choices and explain all of the options available to you in a Shared Decision Making model. We offer in hospital induction but also offer out of hospital induction options that can shorten the amount of time you spend in the hospital.

Family Centered Cesarean Delivery

If you choose a cesarean delivery, our ARHC providers can help to support a more person-centered experience, where you can see the baby being delivered, you or your support
person can cut the cord after delivery, and you or your partner can do skin to skin with your new baby.

External Cephalic Version

A breech fetus is when the buttock or the foot is the presenting part. If you have a breech fetus, our providers can offer you an external cephalic version, which is the manual turning of a fetus, through external maneuvering, so that the fetus shifts to a cephalic, or headfirst, presentation. This can optimize vaginal delivery. We will discuss this option with you in a Shared Decision Making model.

Vaginal Twin Birth

We support all options for delivering twins whether you are seeking vaginal or cesarean birth. Our providers will navigate the options and expectations with you in a Shared Decision Making model.

Vaginal Breech Birth

We support options for delivery, and if you are seeking vaginal breech birth, our providers will navigate the options and expectations with you in a Shared Decision Making model.

Postpartum Care

You will have the option for a 1 week in person or virtual visit after your birth as well as a follow up appointment in 4 to 6 weeks postpartum. We believe that additional support after birth is important to building healthy families.

Late Transfers of Care

At ARHC, we understand that you may need to find a new provider depending on your evolving needs for yourself and your pregnancy. We accept late transfers of care at any point in your pregnancy. If you find our model of Shared Decision Making and person centered care acceptable, we are here to support you.
